I recently had a moment to sit on the edge of the mounting block and watch Dudley have his morning quick graze of decent clover and rye pasture. My mind turned to arm position because I noticed that if my hands draped in my lap and the arms were slightly forward of my body at the elbow that I seemed to siting forward on the front of my pelvis, so I drew my arms back inline with with body and raised my hands slightly and felt the rear of my pelvis then also make contact with the mounting block, achieving the three point contact/seat (just Google something like dressage three point seat if you are ‘lost’), felt more stable on my perch and learned a valuable lesson – get my hands off the horse’s neck and develop my core muscles for a better seat (like, who hasn’t been told this in one form or another!)
