CLUMBER SPANIEL KLUBBEN SWEDEN 1978-2008 30th Anniversary Club Show Lotta Olsson
As always our club show took place over the first weekend of August. This year we tried to make it a bit special because of the 30th anniversary. We had chosen a beautifully situated place on the west side of Sweden, not far away from Gothenburg. We started on Friday evening with our obedience competition, just four participated but we had a great time, it is always enjoyable to watch Clumbers in the obedience ring. The winner was SU(u)CH Clodhoppers Skip Timer with her owner Anna Liss Daniels. We then enjoyed the beautiful evening on the terrace of the hotel, eating a very tasty buffet of seafood and BBQ, thanks a lot to Kent Akerman. There were many of us that really enjoyed the warm summer night and the company of other Clumber fanciers.

Another sorely overlooked couple of extremely dangerous issues are toys and collars. Many jurisdictions require a dog to constantly wear a collar – any collar can potentially become tangled, caught, twisted and so choke a dog to death – ensure the collar can not tighten, ensure there are no snags (including door or cupboard handles) that could catch the collar, and perhaps even invest in a safety collar that can tear apart in such extreme cases. I would be most appalled to think I should have to include a sentence here to say never use a slip collar for this – if you are that naive, please give your dog to a more aware friend to care for.
WORLD SHOW – SIDE SHOW

THE HEAD – part 3 Sometimes the teeth start wearing while the dog is relatively young. When appraising a dog, this needs to be considered, as it may be due to the dog chewing excessively which can be devastating in the backyard; or it may indicate lack of proper mineralisation of the teeth. When judging, this should be assessed as an imperfection to be balanced by the animals other virtues and only taken into account when all else is equal between such a dog and its competition. However, if contemplating purchase of a bitch for breeding I would regard it as a serious defect.
