A STUDY OF A DIRECT LINE OF DESCENT Jan Irving
With Bailie Friar as my first example, I will take us through a fascinating history of the Clumber Spaniel. By turning to historical records we can learn so much about our breed. No true breeder can afford to ignore the wealth of information contained in descriptions, show critiques, advertisements and of course photographs. Even if a study is limited to colour alone the material can explain and prophetize so much. There are, of course, many gaps but by studying siblings and close cousins, we can narrow these voids.

The stands were manned by Club members and there were many lovely Clumber souvenirs. Also the Rescue section had a stand which did a steady trade throughout the day. Committee members and helpers made super home-made food at a reasonable cost. A Steiff teddy bear was donated for the raffle which was a very popular prize. Royal Canin provided sponsorship in the form of small bags of food for each class winner and larger ones for BIS, RBIS and Best Veteran.

THE FIVE CS THAT MAKE EACH AND EVERY DOG: THE NECK Barbara Irving BVSc
To revert to the crest. This is more apparent in the mature dog, and its presence should not be looked for in the puppy or even an immature dog under eighteen (18) months of age. While the pup is growing the bones, ligaments and muscles are all growing too, so that there must be some slackness and this is expressed by a completely awkward appearance. This is normal. You need to be very suspicious of the young dog that has a mature finish.
CROSS BREEDING PROJECT Lotta Olsson
This projects aim has been to widen the genepool, all other positive effects that may occur are a bonus. The project is very strictly regulated by the kennel club, all combinations have had to be approved by the kennel club, we have applied for everything, it has cost a lot of strength and effort to make this project successful.

RALLY O (OH! OH!) Victoria Simmonds
I think it was about mid November, after the new flat screen TV arrived (an early Christmas present from the kids) that I noticed the Clumbers were spending far too much time in front of the TV set. I was constantly looking over four large white heads that seemed to fill the screen. Animal Planet was constantly on. If I turned off the TV set they sat staring into a blank screen willing it to be turned on again. They were getting quite involved and all sorts of muttering discussions were exchanged among them. We had had close to five feet of snow and tracking was impossible (there is much more now).

AUCTION
The famous auction house Bonhams again held their massive dog art auction timed to coincide with Westminster. And, yet again, the auction offered a number of lovely Clumber Spaniel Pieces. This year paintings by Hyland and Wardle were auctioned and sold, while the lovely pencil of the American resident Ch Oakerland Rolfe was passed in.
