CLUMBER SPANIEL LEAGUE VICTORIA 2009 CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
Our Championship show attracted 17 entries, which is consistent with the entries fro the past five championship shows. We would welcome more entries, and strive to accommodate the busy lifestyles of Clumber owners across Australia by moving the show each year – always in the cool months of April to October to allow safe road travel without excessive heat. We also choose to exhibit at the states best grounds with fabulous lawns and a superb indoor complex, as well as contract overseas judges.
THE FIVE CS THAT MAKE EACH AND EVERY DOG Barbara Irving BVSc
THE SHOULDERS and SHOULDER JOINT The shoulder blade is attached to the dog entirely by muscles. It is thus very mobile, but its position is still decreed by the muscles origins from the neck and chest vertebrae and the many rib attachments. In all but the exceptional breeds, the shoulder blade is required to be sloping and well laid. A very common fault of dogs is an upright shoulder blade.
THE HEMPSTED CLUMBERS From Country Life Dec 19th, 1914
I ONCE shot over a team of Clumber spaniels belonging to Mr. D z. The breed (the Duke of Newcastles, taking their name from one of his seats) are mostly white with a little lemon colour, have large sensible heads, thick, short legs, silky coats, carry their sterns low, and hunt perfectly mute. The team kept within twenty or twenty-five yards of the keeper, were trained to acknowledge rabbits, as well as all kinds of game; and in the country Mr.D z was then shooting over afforded capital sport. One of the spaniels was taught to retrieve.

A SPECIAL DAY Eva Masthagen
I am very proud to share with you that our Eddie, Westerly Gaels Soft Whisper received his last CAC in late August and can now add the title Full Champion (SeUCH) to his name. This was only his fifth show. It means that together with his official field trial awards he has now also received the CACs he needed for this title.
LANCE Nick and Vicki Mirabile
I have started this several times, but have never finished. Nor have I really put much into the computer. I stare off into the distance thinking about Lance and his many years with us. I think about all the dogs that have come and gone during Lances tenure. I think about how we were lucky to get him. I think of his rough start and how he spent his first week with us in the Doggie ICU at the local vets. I think how he pulled through and lived to be just 13 days shy of 16 years this past April. I also think about how he was always the puppy who would never grow up until he finally did about two weeks before he died.
A SCINTILLATING SWEDISH YEAR Eva Masthagen
One really nice that we can report from the Swedish show rings is that we have had many Group- and BIS placed Swedish bred Clumbers on our national and international dog shows this last year (2009).
