This is not a breed registry. It is a repository of information about the heritage of goats of many breeds. Its purpose is to provide a record of pedigrees of goats for future reference.
The criteria for entry into this register is that the animal has features the breeder wishes to perpetrate for posterity. The purpose of the register is to provide information on the development and history of particular animals.
There are sections for all types of goats, currently:
F Fleece goats:
Angora Goats A
Coloured Angora Goats Z
Cashmere Goats C
Developing types D
L Dairy goats:
Saanen S
Toggenburg T
British Alpine B
Anglo Nubian A
Developing types D
M Meat Goats:
Boer Goat B
Developing types D
O Other types not included
U Utility goats
Types which combine two or more of the above categories.
The encoding system for registration of individuals:
S studbook: fully pedigreed for ten or more generations
H Herdbook: fully pedigreed for five to nine generations
G Developing: pedigrees of less than five generations
The actual registration code consists of:
Year of birth: 2 numerals
Type of goat: F, L, M, O, U.
Breed of goat: From codes mentioned above.
Pedigree status: S, H with numeral 5 to 9, G with numeral 1 to 4.
It is required that developmental types should include the aims and criteria of the breeder at the first introduction of the goats to the register.
The register will be published annually in December. Entry fee 2004: $5.00 per entry.(incls GST)
