What a splendid book! Full of excellent and easily followed advice, and fabulous full colour photos for the photographer and artist to look at, love, and contemplate.

There a good number of books on photographing dogs at the moment, and as well, as that superb early book by Sally Anne Thompson has been out of print for so long – but seek it out if you can.
I recommended this title to our local dog library because I was aware of Nick Ridley’s fabulous photos from field trials, his book is more than I could have asked for.
He covers indoor and outdoor portraits, cameras (film and digital), lighting, and backgrounds, plus composition; all in a very easy to read prose and superbly supported with excellent photos and illustrations.
And just to inspire the dog artist/photographer even more, he has a lovely section on photographing other pets, yes cats, but ferrets, hamsters and others too.
The book is solidly bound (hardcover) and printed on lovely stock – a credit to the publishers The Guild of Master Craftsman Publications. My only small gripe, is that the photo captions so often repeat, word for word, the text, which I found irritating. Each photo was clearly labelled with the equipment used to capture it, which I found useful and informative.
Highly recommended!
