MORE ON STANDING www.showringsecrets.com
Here is a quick sample on improving the image. The first photo shows a show practice class and free standing, the handler is standing in front and allowing the dog to just stand naturally but smartly. A novice dog, he is lifting his head too high, so the lay of his shoulder and length of neck is masked, and he has to dip his topline to look at his handlers right hand which is about neck height, overall not a very comfortable pose and he will move shortly from it.

THE CHEST (THORAX) Ribs are all curved. They may be curved near their head (the joint that interlocks with vertebra) or they may be gently curved throughout their length. The place and depth of the curve determines the shape of the chest. The ribs may be long and just gently curved as in the greyhound where the back is relatively narrow, but the sides are deep and the brisket is comparatively broad, through broad backed dogs such as German Shepherds who have most of the curve in the upper part of the rib giving width of back but very flat sides to the round barrel of Pugs and Labradors to quote two classical barrel chests. There is of course the huge range of variations for all the breeds.
